We have a fun craft for you today: tutus! Tutus aren’t just for ballet class or recital anymore. Lots of little girls twirl around in them, playing with their friends and wearing them to school. Adults wear them too, they have become popular for women to wear for running and walking events or as part of a Halloween costume. If you are new to crafting, you’ll be happy to know that tutus are often simple to make and many can be done with a no-sew method. How to Make a DIY Adult Tutu
A DIY adult tutu can be ideal for fancy dress or a pink tutu in the adult race for life. Either way we don’t where a tutu that often so why not make it a DIY one that can be used over and over again.
- 10-12 yards of tulle any color. If using 2 colors for your, use 5-6 yards of each color.
- 1/4 inch elastic, 3 yards
- Scissors
- Measuring tape or ruler
- Chair or pillow
- An adult
- And a bit of DIY know how
Okay let us begin this fun project. .Firstly for your adult tutu you will need to measure your waist. Then measure the elastic to match the size of your adult waist, minus 2 to 3 inches and cut. The elastic is stretchy so you don’t want it the exact size of your waist, you don’t want your DIY tutu too tight, you may want it your DIY adult tutu a little shorter so that it doesn’t fall off,( yes I know it is DIY) still…. Tie the elastic around a big pillow. It’s easier to put the tulle on this way cut into 6 inch strips about 2 1/2-3 feet long. To put the tulle on the elastic,fold a piece of in half,put the folded tulle behind the elastic, the round part at the top and holding the ends of the tulle together, pull the ends up through the “U” shape (around the elastic),and pull to make a knot. Do this with each piece of tulle, all along the elastic until you’re done. To fasten,take the two ends of elastic and tie together for a pull-up tutu .
